The Nature INDEX, a database on researchers and basic research articles published in natural sciences, in addition, has highlighted the University of Valencia in its 2020 edition as third in Spain and number 70 in Europe in number of published articles. It is also located in similar parameters in the fractional count, which addresses the percentage of authors of each institution and the number of affiliated institutions per article. By subjects, the UV is second in Spain in Physics by number of articles and first in Chemistry in the fractional count.
Nature INDEX data is collected from a selected group of 82 high-quality scientific journals in the area of natural sciences, meaning less than 4-5% of journals covering natural sciences on the Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), but about 30% of all citations to natural science magazines. The database, developed by Nature Research, was created in 2013.
Yesterday, Tuesday, May 12, it updated the 2020 annual tables, which include the 2019 data, in an institutional version, another one by subject and a third one in terms of the number of articles published in the Nature & Science group of journals.
In the institutional version, to which the aforementioned data belongs, it stands out that the University of Valencia has improved in almost all the parameters regarding 2019. Thus, in the Full Count (AC), which addresses the number of articles, this year it has climbed to position 178, from 210 in 2019; in Europe it rises to 70th place (82 last year) and remains third in Spain and first in the Valencian Community. As for the Fractional Count (FC), it improves in Spain and goes from fourth in 2019 to third; from 85 to 76 to Europe, and in the world, from number 269 to 247.
As for the database classified by subject, and taking into account the criteria of the number of articles (AC), the University of Valencia is second in Spain and first in the Valencian Community in Physics and Chemistry; and seventh in Spain in Earth Sciences and Environment. In the fractional count, the UV is first in Chemistry and third in Physics. As for the number of articles published in Physics, there are 197, by 79 in Chemistry, 23 in Life Sciences and 10 in Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Regarding the number of articles published in the Nature & Science group of journals, the third parameter updated yesterday, the UV improves slightly compared to last year at the Spanish level (position 6-7) over 7 last year; and remains as the first Valencian.
On a Spanish scale, the University of Valencia is only surpassed in Nature INDEX by the Autonomous University of Madrid and the University of Barcelona.
