The University of Valencia coordinates the launching of the first IBERIFIER survey, the purpose of which is to analyse the opinions of the Spanish and Portuguese citizens on the economic impact that disinformation could generate in the credibility and trust towards the media. IBERIFIER is a digital media observatory in Spain and Portugal promoted by the European Commission and linked to the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO). Coordinated by the University of Navarra, it is formed by twelve universities, including the University of Valencia, five verification organisations and news agencies, and six multidisciplinary research centres.

The questionnaire will be available online and will be accessible to any person of legal age who reads the press (digital or printed), or who is informed through radio, television, or through other media platforms or social networks that allow them to access to journalistic information. The questionnaire will be available in two versions: Spanish and Portuguese. The estimated time to respond to the survey is less than 5 minutes.

The survey is completely anonymous, and the responses will allow the research team to study whether citizens trust information from the media or not and whether the publication of false news decisively influences trust in the media. As well as whether paid content is more credible, or whether paid or free is irrelevant to trusting them. Misinformation configures a scenario with various secondary effects; among them, the economic effects on the media system.
