The University of Valencia, third in Spain in citations of its scientific publications with an increase of 15.24% in the last year

The University of Valencia (UV) is the third Spanish university with the highest number of citations received (612,170), 15.24% more than last year, for its scientific publications and it is the fourth in the state in number of published academic articles (papers), 7.2% more than in 2020, according to the Incites Essential Science Indicators ranking, which analyses 7,261 institutions around the world. In addition, by subjects and by number of appointments, the UV stands out in Agricultural Sciences, in the first position in Spain and 84 in the world; and in Physics, where it is the 137th in the world and the second statewide.

The Incite Essential Science Indicators database, or InCites, is a compilation of statistical information built on data from the Web of Science and shows the emerging scientific trends that stand out in each field of research. It analyses the data of more than twelve million articles in more than 12,000 journals, over a period of 11 years, and classifies authors, institutions, countries, and journals in 22 research fields, according to the performance of publications and citations.

InCites works with six indicators: number of citations (Citations), number of articles (Papers), citations for articles, impact articles (Top Papers), highly cited articles (Highly Cited Papers) and hot papers (Hot Papers). Thus, the UV, in addition to being third in Spain and first in Valencia in number of appointments, has improved two positions compared to 2020 and is 322 in the world. In the count of articles, it is the first Valencian, fourth in Spain and occupies the 308th position in the world, with 30,114 publications by authors of the institution.

In the Hot Papers indicator –works published in the last two years and among the 0.1% of the best articles in the same field–, the University of Valencia is the second in Spain and occupies position 203 in the world. On the other hand, in highly cited articles, UV is third in Spain and ranks 302 in the world.

Statewide, the University of Valencia is only surpassed in number of publications by the universities of Barcelona, Autonomous of Barcelona and Complutense of Madrid. In terms of number of citations, only those of Barcelona and Autonomous of Barcelona improve their results. In all the InCites indicators, the University of Valencia is the leading Valencian higher education centre.

 

By subjects

In addition, by subjects and with respect to the number of scientific citations, the UV stands out especially and taking into account the comparison with other Spanish universities, in Agricultural Sciences (it occupies number 1), Physics (2), Clinical Medicine (3), Microbiology (3), Psychiatry / Psychology (3), Environment / Ecology (4), Economics and Business (4), Pharmacology and Toxicology (4) and Chemistry (4). In 9 of the 18 subjects analysed in this block, the University is among the four best Spanish centres.

In number of papers, the University of Valencia stands out in the following areas of knowledge, with respect to the position of the whole of Spain: Economy and Business (1), Physics (2), Psychiatry / Psychology (2), Chemistry (3) and Environment / Ecology (4), Agricultural Sciences (4), Pharmacology and Toxicology (4), Clinical Medicine (4) and Microbiology (4).
