The Nature INDEX, a database on researchers and basic research articles published in natural sciences, has highlighted the University of Valencia (UV) in position 153 worldwide (25 positions better than in 2020), as third in Spain and number 61 in Europe (up nine places), as well as first in the Valencian Community in number of articles published. It also falls within similar parameters in the fractional count, which addresses the percentage of authors from each institution and the number of affiliated institutions per article. By subjects, UV is second in Spain in Physics and third in Chemistry in number of articles.

The Nature INDEX data is collected from a selected group of 82 high-quality scientific journals in the area of natural sciences, which represent less than 4-5% of the journals that cover this subject in Web of Science, but close to 30% of the total citations of natural science journals. The database, prepared by Nature Research, was created in 2013. The 2021 tables have been updated this week, with data from 2020 and selecting only academic institutions, in an institutional version, another by subject and a third by number of articles published in the Nature & Science group of journals.

In the institutional version, the University of Valencia where it does not increase it remains as it was in 2020, on the same number of institutions analysed: 500. If in the complete article count (AC), which addresses the number of articles, this year it has risen to position 153, from 178 in 2020; and in Europe it has risen to place 61 (70 last year), it remains third in Spain and first in the Valencian Community, positions held in the last four years.

Regarding the database classified by subject and according to the AC criterion, the University of Valencia is second in Spain and first in the Valencian Community in Physics and third in Spanish in Chemistry, besides having climbed to the sixth position (from twelfth) in Life Sciences and having been placed as the first Valencian institution. In the Fractional Count, the UV is third in Chemistry and fourth in Physics at the state level.

Regarding the number of articles published in the Nature & Science group of journals, the third updated parameter, the UV improves notably in the fractional count compared to last year at the Spanish level, going from position 26 to 8, and advancing from the second to the first place in the Valencian Community.
