The Library has a section of Varios (Various) of around 600 volumes. These are factitious volumes that include prints and manuscripts and although it were printed and made independently ones from others, it presents a certain thematic unit, which justifies, that at a given time, someone wanted to preserve them together.

The Varios are publications closely linked to local history. Through them we can learn about the evolution of society, the functioning of its institutions, the legal rules, how certain events were lived, its festivals, the saints that were venerated, and the lawsuits that were settled. There is no convent, church, hospital, institution, saint or image, etc. that do not appear in them, and is for this reason, a greatly appreciated material. Most of these prints came from Valencian presses.

The typology is varied; there are the claims (known as “porcones”) and sentences related with different issues: family law, jurisdiction conflicts between institutions, contracts, taxes, census, tithes, etc.

Another important chapter is law: regional laws, privileges, capitulations, ordinations, Pragmatica Laws, proclamations, public announcements, provisions, deeds, etc.

There are abundant sermons related with devotion and local saints, also funeral prayers dedicated to people linked to the community, as well as discourses on the occasion of local festivals, visits of monarchs, etc.

Another section is the documents of the Ecclesiastical Hierarchy, Bulls and Briefs of the popes, archbishop edicts, of the Inquisition, etc.

Abound the volumes with works of historical content: wars against Turks, problems with France, War of Succession, of Independence, etc.

One Chapter to take into account is the extensive collection of the Gozos, which covers the centuries 17th to 19th, an interesting example of popular literature.
