Twenty books stolen from the Biblioteca Històrica of the UV recovered

The Historical Heritage Group of the Autonomic Police Unit attached to the Comunitat Valenciana has recovered twenty books that were stolen from the Biblioteca Històrica of the Universitat de València. The group was informed, by those responsible for the Library, about the disappearance of these copies, some of them of great historical and patrimonial value, among which is a copy of the playwright and writer Manuel Lassala.

The recovered books, published between 1784 and 1945, have already been delivered to the director of the Servei de Biblioteques i Documentació de la Universitat de València for their reincorporation into the collection.

Exhibition in preparation: Not so invisible. Women in Valencian printing. Sixteenth to twenty-first centuries

Since the arrival of the printing press in the Iberian peninsula in the fifteenth century, there have been women printers in the Valencian lands. In most cases they were hidden behind a veil of invisibility provided by terms such as widow, daughter, heiress or successor of.

These were women who not only managed, but also worked in all the tasks involved in the printing trade, from making inks, working as typesetters, assembling the sheets and sewing and binding them, to selling copies, while at the same time running the household and looking after the children.

The Historical Library is preparing the exhibition "Not so invisible. Women in Valencian printing. Sixteenth to twenty-first centuries", curated by Aránzazu Guerola Inza and Enrique Fink Hurtado (both members of the Societat Bibliogràfica Valenciana Jerònima Galés and the Asociación de Amigos del Museo de la Imprenta. Senado del Museo), which will offer us a journey from the arrival of the printing press in Valencia to the present day, with these women as the protagonists.

The exhibition will open on 6 October 2022 in the Sala Duc de Calàbria of the Historical Library and can be visited until 8 January 2023.
