Antoni Merelles, new Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry

The Centre Board of the Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry has elected last Friday 20April the professor Antoni Merelles Tormo as a Dean with14 votes in favour and none against or blank vote. He replaces the previous dean Julio Fernández after two term of office.

The members of the new team are María Luisa Ballestar (Vice-Dean of Studies and Nursing Degree), Montserrat Alcahuz (Podiatry’s Degree), Silvia Corchón (Research, Mobility and International relations), and Pablo Gracía (Secretary’s office).

Antoni Merelles Tormo has graduated in Nursing in the Universitat de València in 1985. A grant from the Institution Alfons el Magnànim (1998) allowed him to be link with the Department of Nursing as a collaborator teacher. Until 1991, when he got a position as university college assistant in the Universitat de València and afterwards, in 1996, as adjunct. After obtained the Master of Public and Authority Health in the Valencian Institute of Studies in Public Health in 1997, he got the next year the principal university college position at the Universitat de València.

In 2004, he graduated in Anthropology Social and Cultural in the Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia. In 2009, he obtained the diploma of Advanced Studies in the doctoral programme of Social Welfare and Cooperation of the Universitat de València. He got a PhD of Nursing in 2016 and he is now full professor.

During the years, he has lectured in the Nursing Degree and Social Work, as well as in the Master’s Degree of Development Aid at the Universitat de València.

He has made training stays in the Public Healthy in Liverpool and short periods of professor exchange in Leeds (England) and in Gävle (Sweden).

He was secretary of the Department of Nursing (1999-2002) and director of the Department of Nursing (2002-2009) Afterwards, he was secretary of the University College of Nursing and Podiatry and when the transition into a Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry (2009-2012).

Vice-Dean in the period from 2012 to 2015 and again secretary of the Faculty from 2015 to 2018. Since 2009, he has been in charge of the CAT of Nursing. Also he takes part of The Committee for Academic Coordination of Master’s degree of Development Aid, in which he coordinates the specialty of “Health in developing countries”.

His publications are focused on the health public and occupational health fields. In 1993 and in 2003 he has taken part of the group of author and they coordinate the work of three volume “Public Health and Community Nursing”.
