Andrés Moya is a doctor in Biology and Philosophy from the UV. His scientific activity has focused on significant works on symbiosis, genomics and experimental evolution. He is currently conducting a study of the animal and human microbiome from an evolutionary and systems biology perspective. He is also the author of some five hundred publications between scientific articles, chapters and books.

The Alberto Sols awards are sponsored by the Sax City Council and were awarded on December 15. They divide their awards into “Best Scientific Work”, endowed with 8,000 euros and which has been obtained by Ángel Barco, scientific director of the Institute of Neurosciences of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the Higher Council for Scientific Research.

The other award, “Best Research Work”, is endowed with 22,000 euros and is divided into the modalities of clinical research (won by Félix Gutiérrez, professor of Medicine and head of the Internal Medicine Service at the General Hospital of Elche) and that of basic research (which this year was awarded jointly between Andrés Moya and José Vicente Castell, head of the Experimental Hepatology and Liver Transplant research group and former director of the IIS La Fe in Valencia).
