The University of Valencia (UV) is the best of the Valencian universities and the fourth in Spain in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, a classification of the CSIC that assesses the presence on the web and the visibility of 11,993 institutions. In the four indicators of the ranking, the centre is among the one hundred best in the world in one (presence) and among the 250 best in two others (excellence and openness). Also, in the Transparent Ranking version of the ranking, the UV ranks fourth in Spain with 910,435 Google Scholar citations.

The Webometrics ranking is prepared by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and published twice a year since 2004, once at the end of January and the second at the end of July. Globally, it is led by Harvard and Stanford universities and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; by the universities of Oxford, Cambridge and the University College London in Europe, and those of Barcelona, the Complutense of Madrid and the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain.

In Webometrics, the University of Valencia ranks 217 in the world and 71 in Europe. The four indicators measured in the total ranking score are the impact (50%), which includes the number of external networks that have backlinks to the institution’s websites; the presence (5%) or number of pages of the main web domain of the centre. The openness / transparency criterion (10%) or number of citations of the main authors according to Google Scholar Citations and excellence (35%), consisting of the number of academic articles published in high-impact international journals, is also analysed.

For its part, the Transparent Ranking: Top Universities by Citations in Top Google Scholar offers authors a simple way to keep track of the citations of their articles. This classification does not use Google Scholar Citations (GSC) institutional profiles and refers to 4,318 centres in the year 2020.

In it, in addition to being fourth in Spain and the first Valencian, the University of Valencia is in the 240 position in the world and the 76 best in Europe. This ranking is led by the universities of Harvard, Stanford and California Berkeley, while in Europe it is led by Cambridge, Oxford and the University College London.
