Exhibition in preparation: Fire in the Library. Books that set the Europe of the Enlightenment on fire

The Historical Library is preparing the exhibition "Fire in the Library. Books that set the Europe of the Enlightenment on fire", curated by Nicolás Bas Martín, member of the Department of History of Science and Documentation of the Universitat de València. The project will be articulated around a selection of books considered best-sellers of the forbidden literature of the 18th century. Authors and works that from different points of view -philosophical, political, cultural, social and religious- advocated for a more democratic Europe against the absolutism of the Old Regime.

The exhibition will be complemented by a selection of contemporary artistic photographs of the twentieth century, in black and white, by the Valencian photographer Pedro Hernández, which aim to appeal the texts of the Age of Enlightenment.
