On Thursday 27 February the Emergency Committee of the Universitat de València has met to discuss the situation of the Coronavirus on a global level. The Committee had been working since the detection of the first cases in China.

The Emergency Committee of the Universitat has met last Thursday with the participation of the deans of the faculties of the Universitat de València belonging to the area of Health Sciences and the vice-principals in training in medicine and infectious diseases.

In the meeting, people were informed about the coordination with the Valencian Ministry for Health and the contact that the UV has established throughout these days with the students who are studying in the framework of mobility programmes in some of the territories that have been classified as community transmission area.

They have also commented on the information published by the state and regional health authorities, and that provided by the UV research groups with experience in this type of virus.

After evaluating different contingency plans, the Emergency Committee agreed to open a website with information about the Coronavirus (you can visit the website here and the news here), and to send a message of calm to the university community.

This has been said by the Universitat de València’s Principal, Mª Vicenta Mestre, on the following issues: trust in the public health system and in the health authorities of the Valencian government with whom the UV is in permanent coordination from the beginning, as well as a message of calm to the university community, emphasizing that at present all activities are being developed as normal: teaching and research, training practices and the rest of the multiple activities that take place every day at the Universitat.
