Women´s Kumite competition

The Universitat de València adds new victories to its national medal tally in fencing and karate. During these intense days of competition, held in Andalusia, there were also some less favorable results, despite the strong performance shown by the university teams.

The competition set the tone for the entire series of events. In disciplines like the climbing competition, held at the University of Málaga; the badminton and men’s rugby 7 tournaments, held at the University of Granada; and the sailing competition, organized by the University of Cádiz, the UV student team failed to make it onto the podium, although they put in a remarkable performance. However, their best results came in fencing and karate.

Bronze for the universities in karate.

The Campeonato de España Universitario (The Spanish University Championship) of Karate 2026, took place on April 17 and 18 in Pabellón Universtario de Cartuja, en Granada. The competition featured kata and kumite modalities. The UV won three medals in total, all of them in women´s category, which enabled it to rank as the third-best university in this field nationwide. Insaf Bentama-Serroukh Jerabi won gold in kumite, women´s senior category, just like the women's senior kata team, which also managed to take the top spot on the podium. María San Francisco Jerez rounded out the medal tally with a bronze medal in the women's senior kata event.

National success in fencing

The fencing championship took place from April 14 to 16, at sports facilities of the University of Alemería. The UV won three medals, divided between the men's and women's fencing categories. Edward Davi Lusted Rimmington won gold in the men's competition, while in the women's category, athletes Susana García Martínez and Andrea Delmoral Comunian took the podium with a gold and a bronze medal, respectively.
The CEUS are still underway, and we expect them to bring further success for the UV.
