The director of the Physical Education and Sports Service of the Universitat de Valencia, José Campos Granell, has been appointed member of the Standing Committee of the CEDU.

The director of the Physical Education and Sports Service of the Universitat de Valencia, José Campos Granell, has been appointed member of the Standing Committee of the CEDU on behalf of the Spanish universities. The appointment took place in the plenary session held last 16 December 2014 at the UNED of Madrid.

The CEDU is the attendance and counselling collegial institution at the Superior Sports Board in terms of university sport, and the Standing Committee is a Body of the CEDU in charge of applying the agreements made by the members of the Plenary Session, studying and approving, the proposals put forward by the Technical Consultants, carrying out the monitoring and proposal of annual actions of national and international nature in terms of university sport, collaborating with the Universities in the search for resources and other measures that allow the extension and enhance of its activities in the field of sport and any other function to be commended by the members of the Plenary session.

The Standing Session is composed by the president, who is D. Miguel Cardenal Carro, Secretary of the State-President of the CSD, or by delegation the General Director of Sports Mrs  Ana Muñoz; D. Julio Lafuente López, Principal of the Public University of Navarra as Vice-President and representative of the university Coordination Committee in the Plenary Session; and as vocals, six representative of the universities, two representative of the autonomous Communities, the General Subdirector of Sports with competencies in the University Sport,  D. Jesús Mardarás, and the Secretary of the Plenary Session.

The representatives of the Spanish universities are selected for a period of two years and among the representative of the universities in the Plenary Session. Eventually, the following representative were selected: D. Alberto Sánchez Biec of the University of Zaragoza; D. Antonio Yébenes Montoro of the University of Cadiz;  D. Alex Martín de la Poza of the University of Ramón Llull; D. Fernando Ruiz Paz of the Universidad Polytechnic de Madrid; and D. José Campos Granell of the Universitat de Valencia.

D. Mateo Castellá Bonet, General Director of the Sport of the Valencian Government along with the General Director of Sports of the community of Castilla y León on behalf of the Autonomous Communities were also selected by and among the Autonomous Communities in the Plenary Session.

In words of the José Campos, “the presence of the UV and the Directorate-General for Sports of the Valencian Government in the Standing Committee represents a recognition to the work carried out by the state and private Universities of the Valenican Community that integrate the Autonomous Committee of the University sport. It is, after all, the only Autonomous Committee of the State that banks on a collaboration agreement signed by all the Principals of the universities integrated in it. It will also serve to pay a more active role in the decision-taking about the present and future of the University Sport.
