On 14 December, the table tennis team of the Universitat de València will compete in the Regional University Sports Championship, a competition where the universities of the Valencian Community take part and which takes place previously to the Spanish University Championship.
Led by José María Grau, the team can possibly be eligible for the podium. According to the coach ‘This year, we count on the incorporation of Ruth Olea, who plays in the Honour Division, and Javier Rodilla, who also played in this competition last year.’ Olea and Rodilla will be in charge of leading the expedition of the Universitat de València, which will travel to the Sport Technification Centre of Alicante for competing in the regional championship. Along with them, ‘Bianca Descals and Carla Copovi are in good shape and have possibilities to go beyond the group stage’, according to the coach. In addition, in the male category ‘José Miguel Vilaplana and Valentín Conrard have possibilities too’. With this team, the Universitat de València is more likely to accumulate points for the general classification and to have the chance to compete for the first places. In any case, for the technician, the most important thing is that the group is ‘to have fun, enjoy the university competition and set an example of both respect and humility for the rest of competitors. This year, it will be difficult to get to the podium because this is the first year of competition for some of the participants. Nonetheless, in the classification of both the male and female categories, if they support each other, we can all have opportunities.’
