
Universitat de València women’s handball team is putting the final touches on details before leaving for León, University National Handball Championship headquarter this year, between 25th and 29th April.
The team led by Sagrario Santana atends the appointment after finishing the League undefeated. But the National Championship is different, “it is a high level competition, there is a great number of universities with talented players”, said the team coach.
Competition groups have already been published and Universitat de València’s team is in a group of 4 teams together with the university host city team, León, University of the Basque Country and Universitat Politécnica de Madrid/Alcalá. “According to our information, the hardest opponents will be the University of the Basque Country and León. The first is, besides, the starting match in the Championship so we have to consider the increasing preassure due to the adaptation to the competition. The Basque team is constituted by some international junior players, who play in the women’s highest category teams. The Universidad de León is in the same situation, which moreover is the home team and last year obtained the third position in the 2015 National Championship”.
Regarding the other teams “the strongest teams, because of their record in this competition and also because of their squad, are Universidad de Málaga, 2015 Spanish champion consisted of high level players and Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, that was in the second position in 2015”.
Asking about the university team, Santana explained that “it is highly motivated and mentally prepared for the Championship exigency level. Along this week we are doubling training sessions in order to prepare better for the Championship”.
