The UV won the regional championships of chess, cross country running and Valencian pilota

Individual sports teams of the UV compete in the regional championship

UV’s individual sports teams do their best yesterday in the Regional University Sports Championship (CADU), a competition in which the seven universities of the Valencian Community met. This tournament is the step prior to the greatest event: University Championship of Spain.

Chess and cross country running teams moved to the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón (UJI) to compete in its championships. The first one was held at the UJI’s multisport pavilion at 9:30, where the runner-ups participated by the Swiss system, consisting in six or seven rounds. So, they won the men’s gold medal, women’s silver medal and two of them won the bronze medal, resulting regional champions.

The CADU of cross country running was held next to the pavilion and at the UJI Campus. The UV’s team ran a great race in women category. So, Irene Espí won the regional championship and her team mates Andrea Salvador and Ana March ranked 4th and 5th, respectively. In men’s category, the UV’s team also keep the bar high, Alberto López reaching the first step of the podium and Nacho Giménez the third. With these results, the athletes led by Ruben Picazo won the regional championship by teams and won a place in the University Championship of Spain.

The Catholic University of Valencia was responsible for organising the Badminton Championships, which began at 10:00. The team led by Iván Gallardo managed to achieve two bronze medals in single (both female and male category) thanks to the performance of David Siles and Barbara Salines, two athletes who also competed in the mixed category in which they won another bronze medal. In doubles, the pairs formed by Santiago Jareño and Connor Owens, and Cristina González and Paula Bernabéu won also a bronze in their respective categories.
The multisport centre of l’ Eliana held the Valencian pilota Championship in the modalities of raspall, escala i corda and frontó a mà. The pilota players (pilotaris) of the UV won the regional championship of escala i corda and frontó a mà, thanks to the great performances of Francisco Javier Puchol, Víctor Bueno and Roberto Monrabal in the first one, and José Cabanes, Ángel Gregori and Néstor Portes in the second. In raspall category, the UV participants Joan Mata, Sergi García and Guillem Sentandreu were runner-ups. Moreover, the UV became champion by universities because of these results.

As in previous sporting events, the Physical Education and Sports Service will cover the events live and follow up the teams throughout the official social networks (Twitter and Facebook) in which it will inform all its followers on the results of the championships.
