The sailing team of the Universitat de València got the bronze medal in the Sailing University Spanish Championship, disputed between the 11 and 13 May at the Reial Club Nàutic in Palma de Mallorca.

The team coached by Carlos Navarro went to the event with a team formed by Pau Xirivella, Javier Dusmet, Ana Olivas, Belén Olivas and the experienced ship’s master, Juan Calvo, to compete against the best racers of the national scene in the university field.

The team of the Universitat de València arrived to Majorca with a bit adverse weather forecast towards the celebration of the Championship. This circumstance marked the rhythm during the tree competition days. In the first day, the team of the Universitat got to classify in third position, behind the ships of the Pompeu Fabra University that was second and the Universitat Politécnica de València, which won.

The strong winds made impossible carrying out the second day and the third day the ships could only complete half race, so in the general classification only scored the first day.

For the coach, Carlos Navarro, it is “a shame that the weather conditions had not been suitable. This year’s crew were eagerly to get to the podium and although the result (bronze) has been really good, we wanted more. We hope that on the next national championship we can demonstrate in the three days of competition the potential of this team.”
