Gender digital divide and choice of studies, to be debated at the Information Day for counsellors

La Jornada d’Informació per a Orientadors té lloc a l’Aula Magna de la Facultat de Medicina i Odontologia.

Cecilia Castaño, professor of Applied Economics at the Complutense University of Madrid and expert in Gender and Information Technologies will be in charge of giving the inaugural conference of the twenty-three edition of Information Conference for counsellors, management teams and teaching staff of secondary schools organized by the Information and Promotion Service for Students (Sedi) that will take place on January 29 at the main hall of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

This conference will also present the new degree in Business Analytical Intelligence that will be implemented at the Universitat de València in the academic year 2019-2020.

This presentation will be given by Isabel Vázquez, Vice-Rector for Studies and Language Policy, with a lecture entitled The Future of Data, Data for the Future. The experience of studying a degree in English at the Universitat de València is one of the contents that will be dealt with in the conference with a table of experiences moderated by Mercedes Elizalde, delegate of the Rector for Students. In order to explain the characteristics of this formative itinerary, the following will participate: Manuel Guillén, lecturer at the Faculty of Economics; Marisa Guillén, coordinator of the English group at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry; Ferran Suay, lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology and director of the Lifelong Learning and Educational Innovation Service; Iana Silivestru, student of Psychology, Pau Sendra, student of International Business and Jorge Febré, student of Medicine. Finally, Antoni Gil, general coordinator of Access of the Valencian University System, will speak to explain the novelties of access to the university for the academic year 2019-2020.

The Orienters Information Day, which has been organised for 23 years, is the first activity of the 2019 edition of the Conèixer la Universitat programme, which will be followed on 6 February by participation in the Unitour University Orientation Hall, followed by guided tours from 19 to 22 February. This activity is aimed at high school and higher education students who wish to enter the Universitat de València next academic year. The University's centres and services are preparing to receive the 18,000 participants who have registered and who will be distributed around the centres of the Blasco Ibáñez, Burjassot and Tarongers campuses.

Conèixer is a communication initiative that was born in 1996 and was a pioneer in establishing links with the educational community at pre-university levels.  The programme, which is organised by the Information and Promotion Service for Students (Sedi), shows future university students the educational offer and the services and centres of the Universitat de València. As a complement to the different actions of the programme, the Sedi will prepare and distribute the Guide to Degrees and Access - with the University's curricula and information on access and admission, including cut-off notes and weightings.
